Εισαγωγή στη Solar Yoga (Ηλιακή Γιόγκα) του Takis - Εικόνα

A series of meetings entitled “An Introduction to Takis’ Solar Yoga”, an exercise invented by Takis and presented to the public for the first time, will be taking place this summer in the Stavros Niarchos Park in parallel with the Takis exhibition at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

“Takis’ Solar Yoga” is a breathing exercise in which solar energy is inhaled then diffuses through the body. Inspired by Ancient Egypt in the reign of Akhenaton, Takis conceived it as a way to link the human body with the sun and its energy.

It was part of his daily routine.

In this presentation of Solar Yoga, Takis’ students Mima Razelou and Elisavet Delikoura will attempt to convey the artist's thoughts and his idea of Solar Yoga to the participants through its practice, guiding them in their execution of the exercise.

The central concept is that the medium which receives the energy is the body itself. Takis used the body as a means for gathering energy from the Sun; it becomes a conductor and absorbs the solar energy. Solar Yoga is a meditation system whose practitioners receive cosmic energy. It is based in the concept of the union of the two reproductive forces, the sky and the earth, as symbolized by the Ankh, the ancient Egyptian symbol of life and of breath.

“In their era, the ancient Egyptians said that there is just one truth and it is very simple: that the sun sustains Man with energy.

The pure sustenance provided by the sun kept the entire body working in balance. The pharaoh Akhenaton revealed a system whereby people could absorb the sun's miraculous energy. We swim in sunlight, but if we fail to gather this light, it is like failing to gather the fruit from the trees or to harvest the grain”.
