Εικαστικό Κέντημα: Σπουδαίες προσωπικότητες - Εικόνα

On the occasion of 2021, a landmark year for Greece, the creative embroidery workshop pays tribute to people whose actions and work changed the course of history and left an indelible mark upon our society.

We will embroider personalities from the realms of science, politics, literature and the arts. Beginning from the materials and preparatory work required to get started with embroidery, we will move on to learning the basic techniques that we will use in order to complete our handiwork. The purpose of the workshop is to initiate each participant into the creative world of embroidery, and to have them create, by the end of the workshop, their own embroidery of an historical figure.

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners, as well as for those who would like to try embroidering something new.

For March’s workshop, we will draw our inspiration from “The Monument of Zalongo” by George Zongolopoulos, to mark the return of the horizontal cross-section of the sculpture’s pedestal to the SNFCC Agora. Designing the female forms without identifying features or facial details, we will attempt to create embroideries that capture the anonymous heroines whose self-sacrifice and courage elevated them to universal symbols of freedom.
