Gardening Workshop: From sowing to harvesting

A new series of adult gardening workshops is launched this Spring in the Vegetable Garden, aiming to bring the public into contact with the process of cultivating and producing vegetables. 

Workshop #1: Designing and arranging a vegetable garden
In this workshop, we will deal with the process of preparing the soil, from sowing to planting.

Workshop #2: The process of sowing and planting
Each participant will sow one kind of vegetable in a patch of land. We will explain the proper depth and recommended spacing for each vegetable. Finally, we will see how we can protect plants from disease. 

Workshop #3: Composting and recycling 
In this workshop we will deal with the process of composting and explain its importance for the cultivation of vegetables. We will also see how we can recycle crop by-products, and attempt to create fertilizer for the next planting season.  

Workshop #4: Vegetable garden cultivation activities
We will inspect the vegetable garden for any insect-fungal problems, and will remove any weeds that disturb our vegetables’ growth. We will use a hoe to loosen the earth and explain its importance. We will help plants that need support and water our vegetables. 

Workshop #5: Caring for and cleaning our vegetable garden
Our plants will have grown and we will need to clean our garden again. This time, we will use our hands to clean out weeds. We will water them if necessary, and assess if we need to apply fertilizer. 

Workshop #6: Harvesting our vegetable garden 
We will explain what the right time is to collect our plants, how to collect them and how to store our harvest products. Participants will get to take their crop with them.
