Αφαιρετική σύνθεση με βουνά και λουλούδια

Original artistic propositions, creators of the younger generation and unexpected musical meetings are featured in the Music Escapades series that is opening this summer’s program of concerts at the Panoramic Steps of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

On Friday, June 2, traditional tunes meet modern sound, with two bands from northern Greece that power-charge folk music in their own unique way.

Kadinelia
From the tradition of Greece to the whole wide world: this is the musical journey offered by Kadinelia, the world music acoustic duo of Thanasis Zikas (guitar, tsampouna, voice) and Evi Seitanidou (guitar, toumpaki, voice). A journey in which the timeless sounds of Greece acquire a new character as they are enriched with blues and rock elements. Kadinelia were created in 2014, brought together by their love for the artistic expression of various different ethnic groups, which soon led them to create covers of traditional songs from Greece and around the world. Their first album with original compositions was released in December 2019. On stage, Kadinelia effortlessly prove that even smaller groups can offer the audience a rich concert experience.

Alkyone
Young singer and songwriter Alkyone was first introduced to us in late 2022, via YouTube, thrilling her audience with her cover of the traditional song “Xenitemena mou poulia.” A special artist who lives and works in Edessa, her music is profoundly influenced by alternative pop and enriched with traditional and cinematic elements. Her debut album, Exit Sign, released on May 26, is the one she will be presenting at the Panoramic Steps on June 2. “Oh Mother” and “Genesis,” the first two singles from this album, have already been embraced by radio stations and the public.  In her English-language compositions she combines pop-folk and indie elements with influences from seemingly heterogeneous musical traditions. In her live performances, apart from her personal compositions, she also renders popular songs with the freshness, the insight and the dreamy, otherworldly sound that characterize her. She recently performed alongside Maria Farantouri, in two concert tributes to Mikis Theodorakis in Zurich and Munich, while in the summer of 2023 she will be accompanying Thanasis Papakonstantinou in his concerts throughout Greece.
