For the sixth summer running, Park Your Cinema, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC’s) series of open-air cinema projections, welcomes the public.
This year, for the selection of films addressed to adult viewers, the SNFCC inaugurates its partnership with the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF), the country’s most prestigious film institution.
This summer, therefore, when our need to laugh is greater than ever, the TIFF presents a series of films that prove that comedy is, after all, a very serious matter.
Raising Arizona (1987) Hi is in and out of prison for petty theft. Ed is a police officer. Hi and Ed fall in love and get married, but they cannot have children of their own – so they steal Nathan Junior, one of the quintuplets of local tycoon Nathan Arizona. Their decision leads to a string of kidnappings, a long-winded chase, a series of prophetic dreams and a revelation on the true meaning of maternal and paternal love. In their second film, after “Blood Simple”, the Coen brothers break out of their former style, turning to humor and a faster pace, to create this crime comedy which, in turn, characterized their entire subsequent filmography.
