The “Journey to the SNFCC”, which began about a month ago, continues at the Central Library of the Municipality of Athens with several events that combine actions dedicated to the power of the Word, the creation of Art and the beauty of the urban landscape.

The events at the Central Library of the Municipality of Athens begin on Friday, December 27th with a productive debate contest that passes the baton to the youth, to discuss the role of Democracy in a contemporary society and its relationship to its ideological opponents. Immediately after, in the central hall of the library, there will be a screening of short experimental digital films produced during the filmmaking workshop run as part of the “Journey to the SNFCC” program.

On Saturday, December 28th, convening at the main entrance of the National Garden, the residents of Athens, under the guidance of WWF, will have the opportunity to explore the green spaces of the capital and record their condition, as well as take part in a unique treasure hunt for adults and families in the National Garden, and discover that the city’s parks are free spaces for creativity and leisure. In addition, on the same day, artists Maya Andreou, Efi Logginou, Ioanna Pappa, Konstantinos Tzoumas, and Marietta Fafouti will welcome the public to the Central Library of the Municipality of Athens, where they will read excerpts from their favorite books and engage the audience in an open dialogue about art and its place in society. Ioannis Trohopoulos, CEO and Managing Director of the SNFCC, and Stavros Zoumboulakis, President of the Board of Trustees of the National Library of Greece, will participate as well. The events in Athens will draw to a close in a musical way on Sunday, December 29th, with an “Opera in a Suitcase” performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni by the Greek National Opera. Shortly before the end of 2013, the residents of the capital will travel to the evocative world of opera and discover the approachable beauty of the lyrical arts.

All events are free to attend but, due to their popularity, priority tickets for all events held in indoor spaces will be issued an hour before the scheduled start time.

The “Journey to the SNFCC” Program is carried out by the SNFCC in conjunction with the GNO and the NLG, through an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
