Social Ballroom Festival - Εικόνα

The Social Ballroom Festival, the long-established dance festival of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), is back this year at the Agora, on September 8, 9 and 10, promising an unforgettable three-day event brimming with dancehall, tango and boogie-woogie beats. The program includes open dance classes, impressive dance shows, concerts and DJ sets, inviting all dance lovers, regardless of age or prior experience, to a three-day celebration.

During the first part of each evening, starting at 19.30, teachers and dancers will be revealing the secrets of a different dance each day, to be followed at 21.00 by unique dance parties. The Social Ballroom Festival is staged with free admission, thanks to a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Friday, September 08 | Dancehall
19.30-21.00 Dance class with Sara Ganem
21.00-23.00 Party

Dancehall dancer and teacher Sara Ganem introduces the audience to the style and steps of a unique, vibrant kind of street dance, tracing its roots to exotic Jamaica. Joining her is her troupe, the Unity Vybz. After the dance class, the evening continues with a party.

Saturday, September 09 | Tango
19.30-21.00 Dance class with Tangopolis
21.00-23.00 Party with live Music: Kostas Vlachopoulos (melodic harmonica) and Herman Mayr (guitar, piano, voice)

Tangopolis (Dionysis Theodoropoulos and Chloe Theodoropoulou) bring the unique aroma of Argentine tango to the SNFCC Agora. Experienced dancers guide the audience in grasping this most sensual of dances, through dance moves of unparalleled charm. The class will be followed by a “milonga” (dance for all) accompanied by live music.

Sunday, September 10 | Boogie-Woogie
19.30-21.00 Dance class with the Rollin' Foxes
21.00-23.00 Party with the HiROLLERS

On the night of Sunday, September 10, the beat changes to boogie-woogie, a type of rock ‘n’ roll dance. The class is taught by the Rollin' Foxes (Manos Kouvakis and Rodi Kangelari), a couple that has pioneered the dissemination and teaching of boogie-woogie in Greece. The evening culminates with the HiROLLERS, the band of double bass player, singer and composer Christos Zois, who promise to lure everyone present into a thrilling party.
