The Olympic Flame at the SNFCC

On Friday, April 26, at 14.30, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is welcoming the Olympic Flame, as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay.

The Olympic Light, carrying the message of peace, will travel from Archaia Olympia to all corners of Greece, with the last part of its trip, on the last day of the torch relay, covering the route Corinth–Megara–Marathon–Lavrio–Sounio–SNFCC. Its final destination will be the Panathenaic Stadium, where the Handover Ceremony will take place.

The event, which once again attests SNFCC’s status as a landmark of modern-day Athens, will take place at the Agora. Four Torchbearers will run around the SNFCC Canal, while the Hellenic Navy Band, under the baton of Bandmaster Lieutenant Commander Antonis Karagoudakis, will play the Olympic Anthem and the national anthems of France and Greece, accompanying the raising of the respective flag. The ceremony will continue with greetings addressed by the Managing Director of the SNFCC, Elly Andriopoulou, and by representatives of the French Embassy in Greece and the Greek National Olympic Committee. An exchange of symbolic gifts will follow. The event will be concluded with a singular dance performance of the Greek National Opera Ballet, accompanied by the Fountains at the Canal, in a choreography by Konstantinos Rigos, to the music of “Epirus dance” by Nikos Skalkottas.
