Parabases – SNFCC’s Reader's Theater - Εικόνα

For the new season, Parabases, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center’s Reader's Theater, transforms the Lighthouse into a literary salon, where audiences have the opportunity to enjoy famous actors in semistaged performances of short stories by great writers, from Edgar Allan Poe to Giorgos Ioannou.

Nikolai Gogol: The Nose

“The collegiate assessor Kovalev woke up quite early... He stretched and asked for the little mirror that stood on the table. He wished to look at a pimple that had popped out on his nose the previous evening; but, to his greatest amazement, he saw that instead of a nose he had a perfectly smooth place! ... Right, no nose! He began feeling with his hand to find out if he might be asleep, but it seemed he was not. The collegiate assessor Kovalev jumped out of bed, shook himself: no nose!”

A literary landmark, Nikolai Gogol’s delightful short story comes alive at the Lighthouse, starring Orfeas Avgoustidis and staged by Katerina Evangelatos [in Greek].

A biting satire of public administration and a critique of social absurdity, fusing reality and the absurd in a grotesque world masterfully conjured by Gogol. An actor and a virtuoso jazz trio engage in an ongoing dialogue, weaving a wild tale of inspired madness!

Short story translated into Greek by Orestis Orlof and kindly provided by Ars Brevis/Para Pente Books.
