‘It is perhaps more dangerous to be a woman than a soldier in an armed conflict.’ Major General (ret.) Patrick Cammaert, former UN Division Commander for Eastern DRC (MONUC) While war and conflict cause universal suffering, rape and other forms of sexual violence against women have been pervasive in conflicts throughout history. In 2022, there were more than 600 million women and girls living in conflict-affected countries, a 50 per cent increase since 2017, and all too often women's bodies become part of the battlefield in what is war’s oldest and most silenced crime. Why is this so pervasive and what is happening to change it? Chaired by WOW's Founder Jude Kelly.
