Neither rain nor cold could deter over 13.000 visitors to ring in the New Year at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). Hundreds of fireworks lit up the midnight sky, creating a dazzling show.
A few minutes after the year’s turn, the first race of 2019, the 4k SNF RUN: 2019 FIRST RUN commenced. The runners ran across the lit Canal and the Esplanade, reaching the waterfront and returning through the decorated Stavros Niarchos Park. SNF RUN, was organized for the third consecutive year by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), under the supervision of the “Regeneration & Progress” NGO, in collaboration with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).
At the same time, internationally acclaimed DJ, writer, musician, radio producer and frontman of the legendary 90’s band, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Huey Morgan, kicked off a party at the Agora. Morgan, fired up the audience by playing greatest hits spanning from the ‘70s until now: from Donna Summer, Kool and the Gang, James Brown, Jackson’s 5, to the more contemporary Jurassic 5, Cypress Hill and Michael Kiwanuka.
Earlier, the Stavros Niarchos Hall hosted the concert of Italian crooner Mario Biondi, as well as the live broadcast of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s New Year’s Eve Concert.
All New Year’s Eve events were free, thanks to an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
