SNFCC and the Stavros Niarchos Park are designed to be as self-sufficient as possible regarding water requirements: irrigation, non-potable water applications and the water used in the Canal. Specifically:
- Rainwater harvesting system and aquifer recharge
- Seawater is used in the Canal
- Water cleaning and reuse system for sanitary facilities (gray water)
- Use of seawater processed by reverse osmosis
- Use of non-potable water from boreholes within SNFCC
- Irrigation automation and use of plants with reduced irrigation requirements
- Underground drip irrigation instead of surface irrigation
- River gravel soil cover, preventing rapid evaporation
- No use of drinking water from the public water grid
